2010: Best Music Year Ever

It occurred to me a few months back that 2010 has been the best music year of my life. Or concert year, I suppose, more accurately. But one of my favorite bands released a new album today, and I realized I wasn't near as excited for the new album as I am for their show at Webster Hall on September 24, so maybe the best concert year equals the best music year in my world.

At any rate, though, it occurred to me last night that I'd already started to forget some of the bands I'd seen this year, so I'm going to make a list. To remind myself. And yeah. To brag a little. Heh!

January 23: Justin Townes Earle in Long Island with Caitlin and my busted finger!

March 5: Justin Townes Earle at Bowery Ballroom. Yeah I know: "What are you? Some kind of stalker?!" What this record doesn't show is that I saw him three times at a little bar on the Lower East Side in December, and what you haven't read yet is that I've already seen him again this year, and I'm definitely seeing him at least once more. He's good stuff.

March 23: Regina Spektor at Irving Plaza, which used to be one of my favorite NYC venues, but I believe that show resulted in a bit of a change of heart. At least someone realized the name change was a bad idea: The Fillmore at Irving Plaza. It's back to just Irving Plaza again. Now it needs to get its mojo back.

May 21: BeauSoleil at Tipitina's in New Orleans. My favorite night of that whole trip. And lemme tell you, I *loved* that trip, so favorite night means something!

May 27 & 29: Bon Jovi at Giants Stadium. Three nights, two Bon Jovi shows. I haven't had that kind of run since the summer of 2008 when I did Bon Jovi in Central Park on Saturday and Bon Jovi at MSG on Monday. Hee!

June 3: Dave Rawlings Machine at Bowery Ballroom. Potentially the greatest live music experience of my life. Seriously.

June 4: Justin Townes Earle at the awesomely named, but really very, very strange Outpost in the Burbs in Montclair, NJ.

June 20: Band of Horses at the Williamsburg Waterfront. Venue review: Amazing views. Too many rules.

July 9: Bon Jovi and Kid Rock at Giants Stadium. Notable things about this show; (1) I had my best seats ever for a Bon Jovi show; (2) Kid Rock's set alone was worth the price of admission; and (3) Jon tore his calf muscle with two songs left to go in the night. The man looked to be in excruciating pain, but he gutted it out.

Already on the calendar for the next few months ...

July 27: The Black Keys in Central Park

August 8: Justin Townes Earle at Governor's Island

August 14: O.A.R. in Charleston, SC with my old roomie!!!

September 24: Great Big Sea at Webster Hall

November 19: Ani DiFranco at the odious Town Hall Theatre
